California Trial Courts

Judicial Council of California Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC)

The AOC awarded Anne O’Brien a 3 year grant. to research, develop, distribute and implement customer service and procedural training for the clerks of the 275+ California Trial Courts. After the first year Anne O'Brien received continuation funding based on her performance. Governor Jerry Brown and the California Interpersonnel Agency (IPA) gave this recommendation.

By the end of the 3 year grant, Anne O'Brien achieved 100% implementation in LA County. One of the largest court systems by itself in the USA. She also achieved 69% implementation statewide. The final product was this.

At the request of her County Clerk editorial board, Anne O'Brien wrote an article while on a business trip to Thailand. There she interviewed the Prosecutor of of Chang Mail Thailand. And published the following in the County Clerks of California Magazine Spring 1981.

Anne O’Brien arrived in Guatemala the day a catastrophic earthquake killed 20,000 people and leveled 1 out 5 homes. She volunteered  with INCAP, a division of WHO, for an international medical humanitarian relief mission as documentation specialist. The project involved travel to field hospitals and clinics in the southern Guatemalan jungle. The results were 3 medical guides to identify and treat causes of morbidity, mortality, pregnancy risks and treatment of healthcare needs endemic to the indigenous peoples of the Central American jungles.

Anne O’Brien was chosen as Research Assistant by Dr. Gerald A. Mendelsohn, Chairman of the Psychology Department at UC, Berkeley. They had great intellectual synergy, conducted research and published an article in Memory & Cognition, Vol. 2, No. 3, 566-574, 1974. 


The solution of anagrams: A reexamination of the effect of transition letter probabilities, letter moves and word frequency on anagram difficulty
